The Mountain Top Invitational drew six track-and-field teams to Union County.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made up the field last Thursday, and they placed second and fourth, respectively, in their standings.
Lilyan Cook maintained her reputation as one of the top throwers in the discus with her first-place mark of 110’. The 4x400 relay team of Madison Hall, Morgan Palmeri, Isabella Evans and Sofia El Khorchi posted a time of 4:40.74 for first.
Douglas Callihan was the lone Bobcat in first with a heave of 48’ in the shot put.
The Lady Cats were also runners-up in the 4x200 relay where Evans, Jilly Burnette, Chastain and Kenzie Sewell finished in 1:54.15. Also taking second were Presley Chancey (triple jump, 30’ 2 3/4”), El Khorchi (400, 1:05.40), Chastain (200, 28.49) and Addie Vick (300-meter hurdles, 53.75).
Cook was also third in the shot put (31’) as were teammates Jennifer Garcia, Liz Gonzales, Hall and Stephanie Velasco in the 4x800 (11:23.67) and Palmeri, Burnette, Chastain and Sewell in the 4x100 (54.74).
Fourth-place jumpers included Evans in the long jump (14’ 9 1/2’) and Vick in the triple (27’ 10”). In running events, fourth place Lady Cats were Chastain (100, 13.69), Palmeri (800, 2:53.46) and Garcia (3,200, 13:38.11).
Sewell was fifth in the high jump (4’ 2”), as was Maddy Patterson in the discus (77’ 2”). Garcia claimed the same position in the 3,200 (13:38.11), and Vick was fifth in the 100 hurdles (20.18).
Wrapping up GHS point scorers in sixth were Garcia in the 1,600 (6:21.15) and Sewell in the 200 (28.96).
The Bobcat quartet of Cheyne Smith, Daniel Gonzalez, Charles Norman and Carlos Montes were runners-up in the 4x100 at 45.13.
GHS was third in three relays. The 4x800 team of Max New, Dawson Richard, Edward Marietta and Harrison Chester finished in 9:34.82, while the 4x200 squad of Gonzales, Callihan, Jett Burrell and Montes clocked in at 1:39.08. In the 4x400, Chester, Leeland Dantin, Turner and Richard finished in 3:57.36.
Also taking third were high jumper Mason West (5’ 6) and Callihan in the 100 (11.65). Gilmer’s pair of fourth-place finishers were Seth Turner (800, 2:16.03) and Dantin (200, 23.76).
Rounding out Bobcat point scorers were Burrell (long jump, 18’ 4”) and Hunter Britain (100, 11.99) in fifth. Dantin was sixth in the 400 (55.50).
GHS will host its senior night meet April 16 at 4 p.m.
