Gilmer High was in Chatsworth for a four-team golf match to begin the season March 10.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hit the course at Spring Lakes and squared off against Trion, North Murray and host Murray County. The Bobcats were clipped by MCHS for first, 190-192. Trion (212) and North Murray (231) rounded out the boys standings.
Trion led the way for the girls (162) and was followed by North Murray (170), Gilmer (176) and Murray (179).
Not much separated the Bobcats’ top three golfers over nine holes. Chris Gaddis (46 strokes) was trailed by teammates Noah Wright (47) and Nick Wright (49). Boston Teague shot a 50 as Gilmer’s final scoring golfer, while Bryce Barclay had a 52 and Riley Duggan finished with a 55.
The top-three scores were used to determine the team total, and the Lady Cats in attendance included Kaylee Glover (54), Savannah Simmons (60), Kenley Thompson (62) and Alayna Berger (63).
Gilmer hosted a match at Whitepath two days later and only played seven holes before lightning led to cancellation.
Scores through seven holes were posted by Gaddis (34), Duggan (35), Noah Wright (35), Nick Wright (37), Teague (41) and Barclay (46). Lady Cat scores included Toryn Beavers (41), Glover (45), Savannah Simmons (48) and Thompson (48).
