Gilmer turned away all comers to claim the tournament crown.
GHS hosted the 18-team Gilmer Girls Bobcat Bash last Saturday, and took first place with room to spare. Gilmer’s champions included Leticia Tercero (145 pounds) and Amayah Jones (155). GHS outpaced second-place Cedartown, 152.5-105.5, in the team standings.
Tercero received a first-round bye ahead of two pins to close out her individual title. Jones’ championship run was paved with three pins.
Allison Hernandez (105), Kylee Hoelzer (125) and Abelinda Tercero (135) all reached the finals as well and placed second. Gilmer’s quartet of third-place finishers included Salma Gonzalez (110), Esther Bowman (120), Lucinda McArthur (170) and Erika Tercero (235).
Sarai Solis finished fourth among 115 pounders. Also taking the mat for GHS were Erica Velasquez (130) and Margarita Lucas (140), who won one match.
Aside from Gilmer and Cedartown, Jefferson (82 points), Gainesville (74) and Jackson County (73) rounded out the top five teams.
In the junior varsity division, Gilmer’s Andrea Puac (130) was a runner-up.
