Gilmer swimmers were back in Cherokee County ahead of the district meet.
The Bobcats and Lady Cats squared off against the Pickens and the Cherokee Pelicans last Thursday.
Gilmer’s Elizabeth Kucera, Yana Jones, Ronald Sturgis and Cheyne Smith were the first-place team in the 200-yard mixed medley relay (2:14.44) in the 15-18 age group. Jacob Kucera stepped in for Sturgis in the mixed 200 free relay, and they won in 1:56.33.
Individually, Sturgis was victorious in a trio of events that included the 100 free (58.79), 50-yard breaststroke (33.78) and 100-yard individual medley (1:07.09).
Jacob Kucera was the No. 1 swimmer in the 50 free (24.17) and 50-yard butterfly (28.43), and he was a runner-up in the 100 IM (1:07.55). Smith took second in both the 50 breast (35.94) and 50 back (32.43) and landed in third in the 50 fly (32.59).
Elizabeth Kucera was first in the 100 IM (1:31.35), second in the 50-yard backstroke (41.88) and fourth in the 50 free (34.24). Also, Jones swam the 50 free (second place, 32.40); 50-yard breast (46.50) and 50 back (42.21).
In the 13-14 age bracket, Gilmer’s 200 mixed medley relay team of Emmett Patterson, Asher Faulk, Ryder Johnstone and Addison Potter placed fourth in 3:41.98. Rylee Fountain also competed in the 100 free (second, 1:15.65), 50 fly (second, 52.81) and 50 back (third, 51.85).
Jacob Watson swam in the 50 back (second, 47.15), 50 free (third, 32.63) and 50 breast (fourth, 53.01).
Potter also competed in the mixed 200 free relay with Patterson, Faulk and Johnston, and they were fourth in 3:32.26. Individually, Potter swam in the 50 back (fourth, 57.75), 50 free (seventh, 55.69) and 100 free (seventh, 2:02.20).
Gilmer’s 11-12 aged swimmers included Lady Cats Kaley Best, Saylor Cinard, Sophia DeMarco, Lilly Jones and Bobcats Silas Wilson and Patterson. Best, Jones, DeMarco and Cinard were runners-up in the 200 medley relay in 3:21.93. They teamed up for second as well in the 200 free relay at 1:33.51.
DeMarco won the 50 breast (43.20) and took second in both the 100 IM (1:25.50) and 50 fly (41.03). Jones finished second in the 50 free (44.64) and was third in the 100 free (1:39.17) and 50 breast (1:01.41).
Cinard went on to place fourth in the 50 back (1:00.63), fifth in the 50 free (47.62) and sixth in the 50 breast (1:31.90). Best swam the 100 free (fifth, 1:50.57), 50 back (fifth, 1:01.39) and 50 free (54.19).
Wilson placed third in both the 50 free (44.69) and 50 breast (54.69) and was fourth in the 50 back (54.80). Patterson finished sixth in the 50 free (54.33) and 50 back (1:02.68).
Gilmer’s slew of 9-10- year-old competitors included Lady Cats Jacey Burney, Braylee Green, Kathryn Edelson, Sawyer Sullivan, Ava Williamson and Bobcats Tyler Brogen, Theo Gabriel, Ryland Homan and Grayson Patterson.
The Lady Cat quartet of Burney, Edelson, Green and Williamson won the 100 free relay with a time of 1:29.68, and they clocked in at 1:45.59 for second in the 100 medley. Burney placed first in the 25 free (18.65), 25 back (25.63) and was third in the 25 fly (23.55). Williamson came in second in the 25 free (22.18) third in the 25 back (26.32) and fourth in the 25 fly (24.98).
Edelson won the 25 breast (28.87) and was fifth in the 25 free (23.86) and ninth in the 25 back (34.17). Green was in the pool for the 25 breast (second, 29.91), 25 free (sixth, 24.34) and 25 back (eighth, 31.10).
Sullivan nabbed fourth in the 25 breast (52.32) sixth in the 25 back (29.60) and eighth in the 25 free (30.79).
The Bobcat foursome of Brogen, Gabriel, Patterson and Homan took second in both the 100 medley relay (2:21.36) and the 100 free (1:53.12). Gabriel swam three more events that included the 25 free (third, 25.99), 25 breast (third, 33.53) and 25 back (fourth, 29.63).
Grayson Patterson competed individually in the 25 back (third, 28.54), 25 breast (fourth, 35.05) and 25 free (seventh, 27.75). Brogen was fifth in the 50 free (1:00.34) and sixth in both the 25 free (27.53) and 25 back (36.46). Homan swam the 50 free (seventh, 1:17.98), 25 back (seventh, 44.36) and 25 free (eighth, 34.88).
Faulk competed individually in the 7-8 age group and swam in the 25 free (second, 36.22), 25 back (second, 33.93) and 25 breast (third, 42.46). He teamed up with Lady Cats Harper Hoover and Tiffany Tang for second in the 100 medley relay ( 2:34.71).
Hoover was a member of the top 100 free (2:12.22) relay team. She won the 50 free (1:02.74), was second in the 25 free (30.19) and third in the 25 back (41.25). Tang secured third in the 25 breast (48.45) and fourth in the 25 free (53.27).
Lady Cats Laken Johnstone and Scarlett Edelson and Bobcat Fritz Sullivan swam in 6-under division. Edelson and Johnstone were part of the top 100 free relay team with Hoover. Johnstone won the 25 free (38.03) and placed third in the 25 back (52.07). Edelson was second in both the 25 free (44.01) and 25 back (45.67). Sullivan swam the 25 back and finished fourth (1:23.23).
Gilmer hosted the district meet Monday evening. Results will be available in next week’s Times-Courier.
