Acworth was Gilmer High cross-country’s target destination for its next invitational.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats traveled to Allatoona Creek Park last Saturday for the 7th Annual Big Peach Mustang Stampede. The Bobcats and Lady Cats faced a loaded field and landed in the back of the pack with respective finishes of 16th and 14th place.
Woodland’s Tyler Jones won the boys race by just over six seconds with a time of 16:31.20. Gilmer’s top finisher was Talyn Mesner in 77th place with a time of 19:19.94.
Next up was Bobcat Michael Little in 20:30.05 in 109th place and he was followed by teammates Christopher Chun-Bell (22:18.23, 128th place), Max New (22:19.14, 128th) and Matthew Hennessee (24:55.05, 136th). Chun-Bell, New and Hennessee’s times were all seasonal bests.
Will Capstick crossed the finish line in 26:33.31 for 138th, while Daniel Gonzalez placed 140th in 28:46.37.
River Ridge’s Kelly Miles won the girls 5K by just under 13 seconds at 19:59.89.
Helana Garland led the way for the Lady Cats. She posted a time of 24:55.61 for 88th place. Also landing inside the top 100 were Gilmer’s Amalia Raymundo (90th) and Jayla Walker (95th) with respective times of 25:27.14 and 25:41.42.
GHS runner Kamryn Baxter finished in 27:27.43 for 107th and Carly Becerra was 110th in 29:11.01. Raymundo, Walker and Becerra’s times were all seasonal bests.
Parkview took first on the girls side and was followed by Wesleyan and Creekview. Parkview was the top boys team as well with Creekview and Clarkston rounding out the top three.
GHS hosted the North Georgia Championships at press deadline.
