Gilmer High earned a victory for its second region volleyball triumph of the season.
The GHS Lady Cats were at Northwest Whitfield last Monday, and while the host Bruins won in straight sets, Gilmer downed Adairsville, 2-1. The Cats were in Rome two days later and lost to the Wolves, 2-0. In a rematch versus Adairsville, the Tigers got revenge, 2-1.
Northwest took the match 25-15 and 25-12, and GHS was limited to four kills. Gilmer had plenty of opportunities for digs, and Aliza Chastain finished with eight and Maddie Usry had six. Jace Sanderson and Grace Bramlett totaled three apiece, Madison Bradshaw had two and Caylee Elrod, one.
Sanderson and Elrod were the Cats’ big hitters in the Adairsville match. They had seven each, and Katie Fink tallied three. GHS lost the first set 25-20 but won the second, 25-20. A third set victory of 15-9 gave Gilmer the match.
Elrod had a strong serving day with six aces. Usry led the way with the most digs (21), and she was followed by Chastain (16), Bradshaw (13), Elrod (five) and Sanderson (five). Bradshaw also provided 11 assists and Sanderson had five.
Rome topped the Cats 27-25 and 25-9. Fink was the top offensive weapon with five kills. Chastain hit double-digit digs once again with 12. Sanderson had five digs and five assists. Elrod was there for three aces.
Adairsville lost the first set 25-22 but took the next two, 25-21 and 15-6.
