The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats both served a loss to a region opponent.
GHS hosted White County last Tuesday for senior night, and the Bobcats rolled to a 4-1 win, and the Lady Cats came away with a 3-2 victory.
Gilmer was in Lumpkin County two days later, and the Indians earned a pair of wins. The Bobcats were swept and the Lady Cats secured one victory on the day.
Versus White, Eder Martinez got Gilmer’s opening win by scores of 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 1 singles court. No. 2 single Nathan Hall won his first set 6-4 before losing by the same margin in set two. A 6-2 third set victory gave him the match.
Bobcat doubles Larz Fowler and Kolby Reece cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win, and No. 2 doubles Alex Miltiades and Victor Bennett won, 6-2. 7-5. The Indians only victory came via forfeit.
No. 1 Lady Cat Ollie Burnett earned a singles victory, 7-5, 6-0. The Cats team win was cemented on the doubles court. The top team of Madison Bradshaw and Lucy Ray won 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 team of Charlotte Davenport and Katelyn Campbell took care of their opponents 6-1, 6-2.
Lyla Engle won the second set of her No. 2 singles match, 6-3, but lost the first and third by respective scores of 6-2 and 6-4. No. 3 single Lyric Lowman lost 6-1, 6-1.
Chelsey Griggs and Bree Burnette teamed up last Thursday on the No. 2 doubles court for Gilmer’s only win against Lumpkin. They won both sets, 6-3. Ray and Bradshaw came out on top in their first set, 6-3, but dropped the next two by the same score.
LCHS got singles wins over Burnett (6-1, 6-4), Lowman (6-3, 6-4) and Davenport (6-1, 6-0).
Martinez and No. 2 Rylan Freeman both fell 6-1, 6-0 against Lumpkin. Hall lost the first set 6-3 and dropped a 7-3 tiebreaker in the second.
Fowler and Reece were downed 6-1, 6-0, while Miltiades and Bennett were defeated without winning a game.
The Bobcats have a 3-5 overall record and the Lady Cats are 4-4. GHS wrapped up the regular season at press deadline versus Wesleyan.
