It was a successful week for Gilmer tennis as the Cats secured four wins.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were at home against Adairsville last Tuesday and earned respective wins of 4-1 and 3-2 over the Tigers. Gilmer traveled to Ridgeland Thursday. The Bobcats delivered a 5-0 loss to the Panthers while the Lady Cats won, 3-2.
Versus Adairsville, No. 1 single Alex Miltiades rolled to his win without dropping a game. The Bobcats completed the singles sweep with wins by No. 2 Chase Little (6-0, 7-5) and No. 3 Ryker Hice (6-0, 6-1). Top doubles Harper Davenport and David Warren split their sets by the same score, 6-4, before taking the tiebreaker.
The Lady Cats secured their team win on the singles court where Mak Taylor (7-5, 7-5), Bree Burnette (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Chelsey Griggs (6-3, 6-2) were all victorious.
At Ridgeland, Taylor (6-3, 6-2) and Griggs (6-1, 6-1) nabbed wins for the Cats. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Rosalie Ballew and Harley Dupree dropped their first set 6-1 and came back to win the next two, 6-4, 6-3.
All the Bobcats’ wins came in straight sets and included Miltiades (6-0, 6-0), Little (6-1, 6-0) and Hice (6-1, 6-2). Davenport and Warren kept the wins coming, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 doubles Aiden McCart and Bo Cronic completed the sweep, 6-0, 6-1.
The Bobcats have a 5-8 overall record and compiled a 3-3 mark versus region opponents. The Lady Cats are 3-10 and 2-4 in region.
