Gilmer High School tennis met two more region opponents last week.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made the trek to White County Tuesday and both were defeated, 3-2. Gilmer ended the week Thursday at home versus the Lumpkin County Indians. The Bobcats came away with one win while the Lady Cats were swept.
Gilmer made some adjustments to its lineup versus White County and grouped previous No. 1 and No. 2 singles Ethan Cole and Law Lykins together in the No. 1 doubles spot. They came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win, and No. 2 doubles Ethan Banks and J.D. Taylor won 6-4, 6-2.
The Warriors claimed singles wins over Bobcats Rylan Freeman (6-1, 6-2), Eder Martinez (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and Kolby Reece (6-2, 6-2).
The lineup was back to normal against Lumpkin, and Lykins won his No. 2 singles match with a 7-3 tiebreaker in the first set ahead of a 6-2 win in the second. LCHS took wins over No. 1 single Cole (7-5, 6-3) and No. 3 Freeman (6-1, 6-0).
The Indians snagged wins over doubles Banks and Taylor (6-3, 6-1) and Martinez and Fowler (6-0, 6-0).
The Lady Cats also found success on the doubles court versus White. Ellie Teague and Jessica Futch won 6-2, 6-1. Madison Bradshaw and Lucy Ray rebounded from a first set loss of 6-3 to win the second, 6-4. They claimed the win with a 7-4 tie breaker in set three.
White came away with the team victory on the singles court over Lady Cats Ollie Burnett (7-3 TB, 7-5), Lyla Engle (6-3, 6-1) and Lyric Lowman (6-1, 6-0).
Versus Lumpkin, Burnett won her second set 6-4 between losses of 7-5 and a 7-1 tiebreaker in the third. They also got wins over Engle (6-0, 6-3) and Lowman (6-0, 6-0).
LCHS won doubles matches versus Gilmer’s Teague and Futch (6-2, 6-3) and Bradshaw and Ray (6-2, 6-1).
The Bobcats and Lady Cats are both 4-8 and traveled to North Hall at press deadline
