The Gilmer Lady Cats stormed to a victory by obliterating Gordon Central.
GHS hosted the Warriors last Wednesday, and the nonregion matchup needed just three innings as the Cats strolled to a 16-1 win.
Gilmer was back to its region schedule the following day at Lumpkin County. The Cats had issues at the plate and in the field, and the Indians came out on top, 8-0.
Timely hits evaded the Cats Saturday at Dawson County. The Tigers eked out a pair of runs off three hits for a 2-0 win.
GHS collected nine hits versus Gordon Central, and even routine defensive plays were a challenge for the Warriors. GCHS committed five errors, which led to 11 unearned Lady Cat runs.
Of Gilmer’s 10 runs in the first inning, only one was earned. Mary Grace Jones started the game with a double and hit another double when she came up to bat later in the inning. Also securing base hits in the first were Jaylee McDaniel and Sarah Dale, while Gracie Gaitanoglou had two singles.
Maddy Patterson drew two walks, and McDaniel was hit by a pitch in her second at-bat. By the time GCHS managed a third out, Gilmer led, 10-0.
Neither of the Cats’ runs was earned in the second. The Warriors’ only run was plated with a two-out hit in the third. In the Cats’ half of the inning, Gaitanoglou walked ahead of singles by Patterson and Makayla Martin. With the bases loaded, GCHS issued walks to Melissa Rasmussen, Emma Cagle, Mia Henson and Jones to push the Cats’ lead to 15 and bring an end to the game.
In addition to Jones and Gaitanoglou, Dale also recorded two hits, and she drove in two runs. Martin and Patterson had a hit for GHS.
Dale pitched three innings and allowed two hits, walked one and fanned four.
The Cats did not get a hit at Lumpkin and struck out 12 times. Three of the Indians’ eight runs were unearned, and the game was called at the conclusion of the fifth inning.
LCHS hit two doubles and two singles in the third for a 3-0 edge. GHS committed two errors in the Indians’ five-run fifth. LCHS also took advantage of two walks and a hit batter to go with a pair of singles.

The Cats outhit Dawson County 6-3 Saturday but were unable to score any runs. Meanwhile, the Tigers started the third with a double and moved up a base with a sacrifice bunt. A passed ball put GHS behind, 1-0.
In the sixth, another double began the inning. The runner advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly to left.
GHS stranded five runners in scoring position. Fortune pitched all six innings and allowed an earned run and struck out one.
Jones, McDaniel, Dale, Fortune, Henson and Cagle all had a hit for GHS.
Gilmer lost to Heritage (12-0) Monday evening and are 4-15 overall and 0-9 versus region opponents. GHS hosted Northwest Whitfield at press deadline and will travel to Northwest Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
