Cartersville was the latest destination for Gilmer High cross-country runners.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats competed in the Ninth Annual Wingfoot Classic last Saturday. There were three separate varsity races held, and GHS competed in the B division.
The Bobcats were 21st out of 34 boys teams with 505 points. The Lady Cats (538 points) finished 22nd out of 23 girls teams.
Freshman Dawson Richard led Gilmer’s runners in 36th place. He clocked in at 17:48.9 for 37th place. Next up was senior Talyn Mesner in 96th place at 19:02.9.
Michael Little (108th place, 19:18.8), Leeland Dantin (118th, 19:28.5) and Seth Turner (178th, 20:30.3) rounded out the top-five Bobcat finishers.
Remaining Bobcat runners included Sebastian Raymundo (225th, 21:27.4), Edward Marietta (251st, 22:15.8) and Cristofer Chun-Bell (206th, 22:30.5).
Freshman Estephany Becerra claimed the No. 1 Lady Cat spot in the girls race. She placed 86th with a time of 24:29.5. Next up were teammates Maria Alonzo (121st, 25:50.8) and Amalia Raymundo (135th, 26:25).
Salma Gonzalez (154th, 27:30) and Florinda Lopez (161st, 24:45) also scored points for the Cats, and Angelica Lopez placed 179th in 30:07.7.
The top three girls teams at the race were Chattahoochee (44), Florence, S.C., (90) and Lowdens (145). For the boys, Chattahoochee outpaced North Forsyth, 89-136, and Lumpkin County (169) finished third.
GHS will attend the Mountain Invitational Thursday in Helen.
