The Gilmer Bobcats secured their spot as one of the upper-echelon golf teams in Class 3A.
GHS made its way to Highland Country Club last Wednesday and Thursday for the 36-hole state event. After a shaky start on day one, the Bobcats rebounded the following day for a total team score of 702 for 11th place.
Nick Wright led the way in round one with an 83. Silas West was next with a 91 and trailed by teammates Noah Wright (92), A.J. Callihan (100), Christopher Gaddis (101) and Sawyer Gaddis (113).
GHS fared markedly better in round two and improved their team score by 30 strokes. Nick Wright, Noah Wright, Sawyer Gaddis and West all shot an 84. Chris Gaddis was not far behind with an 86 and Callihan posted a 90.
LaGrange won the state championship over Richmond Academy, 618-619, and West Laurens was third (622). LaGrange’s Sexton Chastain was the low medalist with a score of 147.
