Gilmer High cross-country runners left Murray County with a pair of first-place finishes.
GHS was at North Murray High School last Thursday for its final 5K of the regular season. In addition to the host Mountaineers, the Murray County Indians were in attendance.
The GHS Bobcats scored 24 points and were followed by NMHS (40) and MCHS (90). The Lady Cats outpaced Murray, 30-47, and North Murray was third (49).
Bobcat freshman Dawson Richard was the No. 1 overall boys runner and completed the course in 18.36. The next Bobcat to finish was senior Talyn Mesner in fourth place at 20:10.
GHS point scorers also cracking the top 10 included Seth Turner (fifth place, 20:10), Leeland Dantin (sixth, n/a), and Michael Little (eighth, 21:43).
Gilmer freshman Estephany Becerra placed third in the girls race at 26:08. Next up were teammates Amalia Raymundo (fourth, 26:36) and Florinda Castenada (fifth, 26:37).
Maria Alonzo (27:13) also scored team points in seventh place, while Salma Gonzales clocked in at 29:20 for 12th place.
Remaining Lady Cats included Angelica Castenada (16th, 30:18), Selina Bautista (20th, n/a), Maria Raymundo (21st, 31:37), Aracely Rafeal (22nd, 32:40), Xiare Ramirez (25th, 34:53), Maggie Thompson (27th, 35:32) and Jennifer Mateo (29th, 44:34).
Bobcat Hannes Sobottka (ninth, 22:03) ran as well and was followed by teammates Cris Chun-Bell (10th, 22:03), Eder Martinez (11th, 22:03), Edward Marietta (14th, 23:24), Daniel Gonzales (18th, 25:37), Matthew Hennessee (25th, 30:12), Gabe Watkins (26th, 30:39) and Ridge Blocker (28th, 36:58).
Next up is the Region 7-3A Championships Oct. 25 at Helen’s Unicoi State Park.
