Gilmer High cheerleaders returned to the mat for their third competition.
GHS was at Woodstock High School last Saturday as cheerleaders sharpened their routine in preparation for upcoming region and state competitions. Cheerleaders continued to make strides and scored a 55.
Head coach Naomi Esparza noted the girls got a bit of a warm-up ahead of the event.
“Our girls did really well, and they definitely improved a ton on their routine,” she said. “We were able to perform Friday at our senior pep rally, so that got them in front of a crowd again, and I think it made a big difference going into Saturday.
“We still have some stuff that was off with our timing and other things we could have done better on, but overall, they showed a lot of improvement, and it was probably their best performance of the season.”
GHS has had to make some minor adjustments to its routine because of injuries, and Esparza noted some cheerleaders have been limited at practice as they work on getting back to 100 percent.
“You see a lot of aches and pains start to pop up as you go through the season and toward the end. I think some of that is what everyone is experiencing. Some of the other injuries have been persistent things they’re trying to work through.”
Gilmer will head to Chestatee High School Saturday for its final competition of the regular season. GHS is scheduled to perform its routine at 10:50 a.m.
