Georgia high school football coaching legend Rodney Walker passed away at the age of 79 on May 9 in Atlanta. He was the head coach at 10 schools over a 40-year span, and his third gig was at GHS from 1975-78. In the four years prior to his arrival, the Bobcats won just two games each season. Walker turned the program around through hard work, discipline and accountability and achieved five, seven and eight wins in his final three seasons on the Bobcats’ sideline. He went on to lead teams to 10 region championships and won a state title with West Rome in 1984. His 300 career wins in Georgia rank 15th all-time in the Peach State.
