Clear Creek Middle School soccer took the field last week versus Lumpkin County. The CCMS Lady Cats got a rare 0-0 tie versus the undefeated Indians while the Bobcats’ match ended knotted at 1-1.
Lady Cats’ coach Adam Palmer noted first-place Lumpkin had not lost a match or tied in multiple seasons.
“I am very proud of the commitment and spirit of the girls team this season, especially against a very talented Lumpkin team,” he said. “Being that it was the last regular season home game for the eighth-graders, I can safely say the future of Gilmer girls soccer is bright.”
Deyson Lopez scored the Bobcats’ opening goal after only 30 seconds of play. Clear Creek’s lead finally evaporated in the waning moments of the match when LCMS scored.
“It was just an off night for our team, and that happens to all teams at some point,” said coach Aaron Evans. “Nothing was happening for us. We couldn’t make simple passes, we couldn’t finish on goal when we had the opportunities, and so on. It is nothing too upsetting though. We learn from it and move on.”
A week prior, CCMS trounced Dawson County, 7-0. Lopez led the way with three goals and Alex Tercero distributed three assists.
“We had a much higher percentage of possession with the ball compared to Dawson, and we dominated the midfield. Defense was solid yet again and did not allow a single shot on goal the whole game,” said Evans. “We had a change of formation this game to have a more attacking mindset which proved to be effective.
“This game also allowed me the opportunity to play everyone and give the younger players some minutes.”
The Bobcats have a 5-0-2 overall record and the Lady Cats are 4-2-3.
