Clear Creek joined local teams to deiced who was the best in the Mountain League.
The CCMS Bobcats and Lady Cats were at the six-team event at White County Middle School last Friday. Clear Creek came home with eight top placements.The Lady Cats placed third and the Bobcats finished fifth.
Michael Sapp had a record-setting day and three top finishes. He set new school standards in long jump (17’ 8 1/2”), 100-meter dash (11.76) and 100-meter hurdles (16.70). He also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (47.48).
In the pole vault, Kaitlyn Bedwell cleared 7’ 7” for first place, and it ranks No. 2 among all CCMS Lady Cats. Brooklyn Brummel swept the throwing events, earning first in both the shot put (33’ 6”) and discus (70’ 8”). She was third in the 200-meter run (29.52).
Lakelyn Garrett took first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.98. Kayla Overcash won the two-mile in 13:23.00 while also placing fifth in the 1,600 meters (6:26.41).
Neeyah McDaniel finished second in the shot put (32’ 11”) and third in the triple jump (27’ 4”). Shelly Grace Ghorley placed second in the discus (67’ 8”) and third in the shot (32’ 0”).
Bobcat Jackson Towns finished second in the 3,200 (11:42.00). Peyton Hughes secured the same placement in the shot (39’ 1”) on the boys side.
Molly Hicks added a third-place finish in the triple jump (27’ 4”). Blayz McElfresh also finished third in the pole vault at 7’ 0”.
The 4x400 relay team of McDaniel, Garrett, Caroline Davis and Bedwell added a third-place finish with a time of 5:12.60.
CCMS hosted the annual Mountain Invitational March 14, and the Lady Cats led the field of seven teams with 148 points. The Bobcats were third and topped out with 95.
Lady Cat runners were led by Garrett, who captured first place in the 800 (2:50.83). Overcash followed closely in second (2:51.27), and she was a runner-up in the 3,200 (13:37.57). Karenza Mathis placed third (14:57.21) in the two-mile and fourth in the 1,600 (7:00.28).
In hurdles, Hicks took first in the 100 at 20.70, while Davis finished third (21.33). Bedwell added a third-place finish in the 300 (1:00.21).
The relay teams also turned in solid performances, and were third in the 4x100 (57.74) and 4x400 (5:16.03).
In field events, Bedwell won both the high jump (4’ 6”) and pole vault (7’ 6”). Ryn Baldwin cleared 4’ 2” to place third in the high jump, while Garrett was fifth (3’ 10”). Hicks placed third in the triple jump (24’ 11”), and Gracie Long took fifth (22’ 5”).
Ghorley led the way with a first-place finish in the shot put (31’ 4”). Brummel also contributed in the shot put with a third-place throw of 28’ 2”.
Sapp dominated the hurdle events, taking first in both the 100 (17.13) and 300 (47.70). He turned in a second-place finish in the 100 meters (12.07).
Towns claimed second in the 3,200 (12:24.21) and was fifth in the mile (5:50.66).
Brantley Pulliam added a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 (12:57.20).
In field events, Jerimiah Adams claimed first place in the pole vault, clearing 6’ 6”.
Sapp continued his strong showing with a runner-up finish in the long jump (15’ 11”). Joshua Wooten placed fourth in the triple jump (29’ 0”).
In throwing events, Peyton Hughes earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 36’ 6”. Kortland Long was fifth in the discus (90’ 5”).
