Clear Creek Middle School added two more league wins to its tally.
The Cats were in Union County last Tuesday and had one of their closest games of the season. In the end, it was CCMS securing another victory, 7-6. The Cats made their way to Lumpkin County the next day and earned a sound win over the Indians, 5-1.
Lily Jones was at the center of the Cats’ offensive charge against Union. She racked up three triples, a single and three RBIs. Sarah Dale finished with a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Braley Stewart and Jaylee McDaniel both recorded a hit to score a run, and McDaniel also added a double. Emma Cagle had a base hit as well for CCMS.
Stewart got the win and pitched 6 1/3 innings, struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits. Dale struck out the final two batters to earn the save.
The Cats were able to avenge their only loss of the season when they faced Lumpkin.
“Dale pitched seven innings, and she faced 29 batters totaling six hits, nine strikeouts and only four walks,” head coach Tina McDaniel said. “She was on fire and had some outstanding help in the field, and our bats helped seal the deal.
“Makayla Martin laid out in right field twice to catch some well-placed hits and saved runs from scoring on both occasions.”
Dale had two more RBIs off two hits. Elainah Cox had a single and stole her way around the bases twice for CCMS runs. Mia Henson added a double and a single with one RBI.
The wins improved the Cats’ record to 11-1, and they hosted Towns County for a double header Monday.
The league tournament will be held at Meeks Park in Union County next Tuesday, Oct. 4. The semifinals will be played at 4 p.m., with the championship to follow at 6 p.m.
