Clear Creek softball improved to 7-1 on the season with four wins over its rivals.
The CCMS Lady Cats traveled to Fannin County last Tuesday and blasted the Rebels in three innings, 18-1. The Cats were in Pickens two days later, and the Dragonettes suffered a loss as well, 10-4.
Jaylee McDaniel got the start versus Fannin and she struck out six Rebels on the day. At the plate, she smacked an inside the park home run in the second inning to add three runs to the Cats’ tally.
Brenlee Daniel knocked in a pair of runs for CCMS while Braylee Stewart, Sarah Dale, Makenna Taylor, Elainah Cox and Mia Henson all had one RBI. Dale and Stewart had multihit games with four and two hits, respectively.
Pickens was able to score a pair of runs in its first and final at-bats, but it was not nearly enough to keep pace with the Cats.
“Pickens was up early in the first, 2-0,” said head coach Tina McDaniel. “Then our bats came alive in the third when we scored four runs, then two more in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for the win. The Dragonettes scored their final two runs in the sixth with their last at-bat, but could not pull ahead.”
Dale had another big day at the plate with three singles, a double and two RBIs. McDaniel drove in a pair of runs with a two-run double, and Emma Cagle notched two RBIs as well. Lily Jones collected an RBI and both Taylor and Cox had two hits on the day while Makayla Martin reached base on a well-placed bunt.
Stewart pitched a complete game and struck out 10, walked two and allowed seven hits in the victory.
The Cats also hosted Fannin and Pickens a week prior, and the Rebels were trounced 15-0 while the Dragonettes got wrecked, 14-2.
Dale pitched all four innings and she fanned six Rebel hitters.
Henson hit a triple, while McDaniel, Cagle and Neveah Copeland all recorded doubles, and Stewart, Dale, Cox, Jones and Daniel each had a single.
McDaniel and Copeland both drove in two runs, and Dale, Cagle, Jones and Henson all had one RBI.
The Pickens game only lasted four innings and Stewart struck out all 12 Dragonettes she faced. Offensively, she had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Dale continued her strong season with three hits including a triple and drove in four runs.
Henson had another triple, and Taylor was there for a hit and RBI. McDaniel recorded an RBI as well while Cox, Martin and Jones each had a single.
“In both games, we did a better job of putting the bat on the ball. Our pitching has been stellar thus far this season as well,” McDaniel said.
CCMS hosted Dawson County at press deadline.
