Clear Creek finished in seventh place at the Middle School Duals State Championships.
The event was held in Dexter Jan. 16, and CCMS posted a 3-2 record. Following a first-round bye, Clear Creek downed Fitzgerald, 60-20. After losing to Jefferson in the quarterfinals, 65-19, CCMS bounced back for a win over Commerce, 44-30.
Clear Creek fell to Woodland (55-33), and the Bobcats defeated Chestatee for seventh, 39-38.
Versus Fitzgerald, winners by pin included Braxtyn Newberry (102 pounds), Daniel Escobar (118), Hunter Newhart (125), Jorge Garcia (165) and Fabian Perez (275).
Brantly Fain (79) and Madden Hopkins (210) won by decision, while the Purple Hurricanes forfeited to Jaxon Crater (139), Parker Settel (155) Mason Jenkins (180) and Mason Hamby (72).
In the win over Commerce, Bobcats Escobar, Newhart, Brian Santizo (210) and Perez all won via pin fall. Christian Perez scored a major in his 110-pound bout, and Eliseo Ramos (147), Hopkins, Fain and Newberry earned decisions.
Chestatee was docked a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct versus Clear Creek in the Bobcats’ last win of the event. Clear Creek pinned in five wins secured by Escobar, Newhart, Jenkins, Gauge Crump (86) and Kashane Perigo (94).
Garcia came out on top with a 4-0 decision, and Chestatee forfeited to Perez.
CCMS finished the season with a 15-5 dual record.
