It was a picturesque day for the annual Middle School Mountain Invitational.
Clear Creek Middle hosted the track meet last Saturday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. Ten boys teams were in attendance, while eight girls teams decided their half of the competition. The CCMS Lady Cats scored 59 points to place sixth, and the Bobcats tallied 38 for eighth.
Clear Creek achieved a top placement in both field and running events. Bobcat Madden Hopkins’ throw of 132’ 3” in the discus accounted for one first-place finish, and Lady Cat Morgan Palmeri won the 200-meter run (28.47). Hopkins also leapt 30’ in the triple jump for third.
Remaining Lady Cat top-10 placements in individual running events included Kaitlyn Bidwell, 300 meters (sixth, 59.23); Sonni Ralston, 800 meters (eighth, 3:07.29) and Jilly Burnette, 100 meters (10th, 14.51). 1,600 meters: Palmeri (fourth place, 6:34.82) and Charlee Bishop (seventh, 6:59.25). 100 huddles: Madison Balanno (seventh, 20.17), Kaitlyn Bidwell (eighth, 20.18) and Xiaoxing Troxell (ninth, 20.30).
In the 4x100 relay, the Cats finished fifth (56.08) and 10th (1:01.73), while they were sixth in the 4x400 (4:45.58).
Top 10 field event placements: Kloee Kitchens, shot put (third, 28’); Presley Chancey, triple jump (third, 28’ 8”) and Destiny Lester, high jump (fifth, 4’ 2”). Discus: Kitchens (fourth, 62’ 3”) and Shelly Ghorley (eighth, 53’ 4”). Long jump: Everett (fifth, 13’ 10”) and Palmeri (seventh, 13’ 6 1/4”).
Aside from Hopkins’ aforementioned placements, the Bobcats had three more top-10 marks in field events. Nathan Grice took fourth in the shot put (32’ 4”). In the high jump, Alex Raper finished sixth (4’ 8”) and teammate Seth Polk was ninth (4’ 6”).
Top 10 individual Bobcat results in running events: 3,200 meters, Clint Carver (fourth, 14:44.88) and Asa Leigh (sixth, 15:56.01). 100 hurdles: Raper (eighth, 18.47) and Michael Sapp (ninth, 18.63). Sapp was also sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.22).
In relays, the Bobcats claimed seventh in the 4x400 (4:45.58) and eighth in the 4x100 (53.37).
