Clear Creek Middle School hit the basketball court for league matchups against Lumpkin and Pickens counties.
The Lady Cats were in Lumpkin County last Monday, and the seventh-graders lost 33-26. Molly Hicks led the Cats with eight points and both Khloe Thompson and Hadlee Banks pitched in six points apiece.
Clear Creek eighth graders won 33-20 behind Kensey Pritchett’s 11-point effort and Halle West scored six.
The Lady Cats hosted rival Pickens Thursday and both rolled to victories. The seventh-grade Lady Cats won with plenty of room to spare, 39-17. Hicks was there for 11 points, while both Thompson and Neeyah McDaniel scored seven and Kenzie Farmer finished with six.
The older Cats never had any trouble in their 41-6 victory. Lola Howard led the way offensively with 13 points as West, Pritchett and Braley Stewart all scored seven.
The Bobcats were home versus Lumpkin and only led 24-23 at the half. However, the Indians only managed three points over the remainder of the game and CCMS won, 50-26.
Kayson Taylor scored 21 for Clear Creek, Jackson Sevcech had two while Reece Bramlett and Alex Raper added six and five, respectively.
The eighth-grade Bobcats opened a 26-17 halftime lead and LCMS never recovered. Noah Rice scored 14 points and was followed by Slade Smith (14) and Silas West (10) in the Cats’ 51-45 win.
Taylor continued to shine versus Pickens with 25 points, but the Dragons also had to contend with Bramlett (14) and Sevcech (12). Clear Creek’s seven-point lead at the half increased to a 57-48 victory.
The eighth-grade Bobcats ran the Dragons out of their own gym, 73-38. Rice torched Pickens for 32 points and West added 17. CCMS led 24-8 after a quarter, and the Dragons played catchup the rest of the game.
Clear Creek began the Mountain League tournament Monday afternoon and all four teams were defeated.
