The Gilmer High Bobcats were well represented on All-Region 7-3A baseball teams.
Landing on the first team was the GHS senior trio of right fielder Noah Gutillo, shortstop Eli Cooper and pitcher C.J. Hatchett, as well as sophomore outfielder Peyton Chancey.
Earning a second-team selection were senior catcher and pitcher Hayden Berry and junior second baseman Mel Mosley. Receiving an honorable mention was the junior group of third baseman Blake Grizzle and pitchers Cooper Cochran and Landen McClure.
“It’s a great honor to be selected to this group in a region that is really good,” head coach Jeff Thurman said. “This region top to bottom is really good, and it showed in how it all played out with our region records. Everyone was sort of beating up on each other. We’re proud of our guys, and this is the second year in a row both Gutillo and Cooper made the first team.”
Gutillo had 90 at-bats on the season and finished with a .367 average. He led the Cats in on-base plus slugging percentage (.1236) home runs (seven), doubles (10), runs batted in (29) and triples (three).
Cooper had the most at-bats with 102. He drove in 17 runs, scored 23 and stole 11 bases to go with a .275 batting average, six doubles, a home run and a triple.
In 76 at-bats, Chancey had a team-best .368 batting. His OPS stood at .960 by season’s end, and he recorded 24 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, six doubles and a home run.
Hatchett posted a 2.93 earned run average and struck out 44 and walked 18 over 47 2/3 innings pitched. He was 3-4 on the season and earned one save.
Berry had a 4-3 record and tossed 35 1/3 innings. He struck out 44, walked 31 and had a 6.53 ERA.
Mosley scored 20 runs, swiped 11 bases and knocked in nine runs. He also hit three doubles, a home run and had a .253 batting average in 83 at-bats.
Grizzle scored 20 runs as well, drove in 14 and stole 10 bases. He was hit by 13 pitches to lead the team and added three doubles, a home run, .250 average and 80 at-bats.
Cochran was 4-1 on the season with a 3.53 ERA. He fanned 24 and walked 15 over 33 2/3 innings.
McClure tossed 41 1/3 innings, struck out 32 and walked 26. He finished with a 4-3 record and a 4.06 ERA.
