Gilmer Bobcat tennis picked up their first region win of the season.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted LaFayette last Thursday for their second region matchup of the season. The Bobcats were victorious over the Ramblers 3-2, and the Lady Cats lost, 4-1.
Gilmer was also at home two days earlier for a nonregion match against the Murray County Indians. This time the Bobcats were shut out, while the Lady Cats fell, 3-2.
The Bobcats snagged two wins on the singles court against LaFayette. Both No. 2 Chase Little (7-5, 6-3) and No. 3 Ryker Hice (6-2, 6-2) came out on top. GHS sealed its team win when No. 1 doubles David Warren and Harper Davenport won, 6-1, 6-0.
LHS claimed its wins over No. 1 Alex Miltiades (6-1, 6-3) and No. 2 doubles Bo Cronic and Aiden McCart (3-6, 7-5, 6-4).
The Lady Cats’ No. 1 doubles team of Chelsey Griggs and Bree Burnette nabbed the lone win, 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 doubles Lillian Reece and Autumn Spangler won the second set 7-5 but dropped the first and third, 6-1.
LHS secured wins over singles Mak Taylor (6-4, 2-6, 6-4), Rosalie Ballew (6-2, 6-1) and Addie Duggan (6-2, 6-0).
Versus Murray, Lady Cat winners included Taylor (6-2, 6-2) and Burnette and Griggs (6-0, 6-1). The Indians topped Duggan (6-0, 6-1), Ballew (7-5, 7-5) and Spangler and Reece (7-6, 6-2).
MCHS won all matches over Bobcats Miltiades (6-0, 6-0), Little (6-0, 6-2), Hice (6-2, 6-0), Warren and Davenport (6-3, 6-2) and Cronic and McCart (6-0, 6-0).
The Bobcats are 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the region. The Lady Cats are 1-8 and 0-2 in region play.
GHS traveled to Calhoun at press deadline. Gilmer will make its way to Northwest Whitfield Thursday for a 4 p.m. match.
