Gilmer High returned to the trail for the Five Fast Break Challenge.
The annual 5K cross-country race drew 18 teams to Ringgold last Tuesday, and the GHS Lady Cats finished ninth with 225 points. The Bobcats faced 22 teams and landed in 10th place with 297.
Pickens’ Heidi Thompson won the girls race in 19:18.70, and Lady Cat Jennifer Garcia finished seventh in 21:07.20. Allison Hernandez followed in 33rd with a time of 23:10.90, and Jayla Walker took 53rd at 24:18.30. Estephany Becerra placed 82nd in 25:53.10, while Selina Tercero took 85th in 26:07.80. Melanie Toledo ran 26:59.50 for 100th, and Braelyn Nolasco rounded out the team in 119th with a time of 28:55.90.
Calhoun’s Demetrius Clavino crossed the finish line first in the boys 5K at 16:54.20
Dawson Richard led the Bobcats with a 20th place finish in 18:14.20. He was followed by teammate Leeland Dantin in 43rd at 19:09.50. Seth Turner came in 59th with a time of 19:37.40, and Jeremy Martinez was close behind in 63rd at 19:39.90 and Jacob Pantoja placed 129th at 21:33.90.
Eddie Alonzo finished 167th in 22:58.60 and Edward Marietta ran 23:29.00 for 174th
Gilmer will make its way back to Heritage High School No. 1 for the sectional meet.
