Mr. Robert Cooper Lancey died Friday, April 1, 2022, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Atlanta in 1987 and was raised in Ellijay.  He was a young man when he died. Like many of his generation, his life was shortened by the perils of substance abuse. He suffered a knee injury in high school sports. As part of the recovery he was prescribed opioid pain-killers.

Known as Cooper, he was well-liked and even admired by his friends and family. He had a warmth and charm that made him many friends. He did well in school and was a promising athlete. He was a member of the Ellijay First United Methodist Church for many years. He attended Gilmer High School and The Darlington School in Rome where he graduated in 2005. He later attended classes at Georgia State University. Several years ago, he entered a rehab center in Houston, and seemed to recover. It didn’t last.

He leaves behind his parents, Cliff and Katie Lancey, his sister Lydia and his brother Wheeler. His family misses him.
