City of Ellijay elects three new councilmembers

Votes have been tallied in the Gilmer County Special Election, and the county has a new Post 1 commissioner.

Hubert Parker was elected to post commissioner for the county with 63.7 percent of the vote. He tallied 1,360 votes.

Al Cash had the second highest tally with 249, followed by Jason Biggs with 227, Ed Stover Jr. with 206 and Jerry Tuso with 91.

Turnout in the county race was low, with 2,140 votes cast out of a possible 20,514 registered voters. This equates to a 10.43 percent voter turnout. (See precinct breakdown chart on page 2A.)

In the Ellijay City Council race, Sandy Ott posted the highest vote total with 126 and will be Mayor Pro Tem. She will be joined on the board by Al Fuller — 110, Kevin Pritchett — 109, Tom Crawford — 82 and Kathryn Lancey — 81.

Other totals for the race were Brent DeFoor — 78, Brad Simmons — 74, Charles Barkley — 71, Jerry Baxter — 64 and Jerry Davis — 54.

Mayor Al Hoyle will remain in office with 165 votes. He was unopposed.
