A downtown Ellijay tradition will continue the day after Thanksgiving as this year’s Light Up Ellijay festivities are scheduled to take place Friday, Nov. 29.

Steven Morris, Tony Teague, Chris McDaniel and David Fisher, all of the City of Ellijay Street Department, and volunteer Bobby Cloer, on ladder, put together the Christmas tree on the downtown square Monday morning in preparation for this year’s Light Up Ellijay festivities. Presented by the Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association, the holiday celebration will start early in the day with arts and crafts and food vendors set up along Broad Street beginning at 1 p.m.

Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will begin at 2 p.m. and can be taken until 6 p.m., as well as following the evening parade. The Christmas Carol-themed parade will begin at 6 p.m., originating from Ellijay Elementary School. The tree lighting will immediately follow.

Parade and vendor applications are available at several downtown locations including the Gilmer Chamber Downtown Ellijay Welcome Center, Artful Ellijay and Pets on Main, as well as online at LightUpEllijay.com.
