A Gilmer County woman is dead and her boyfriend is being charged.
Johnathan Kyle Tatum, 25, is charged with murder in the death of Ashley Peterson, 29, according to Captain Frank Copeland of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.
Gilmer County Emergency Medical Services and Gilmer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical emergency at 11866 Tails Creek Road at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 12. Tatum made the 911 call, said Copeland.
Upon arriving and seeing the injuries, first responders requested detectives at the scene, who in turn requested help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to a release.
Peterson was transported to Piedmont Mountainside where she died a short time later.
An investigation determined there was a physical altercation between Peterson and Tatum. Peterson’s injuries were all blunt force trauma, said Copeland. He would not elaborate on the cause or if a weapon was used.
Tatum was arrested at the scene.
He was charged with murder by the GBI and is being held at the Gilmer County Adult Detention Facility without bond.
