Mr. John “Johnny” Everett Goins Jr., 79, was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Jackson, Tenn., to the late John Everett Goins Sr. and Nellie Elizabeth Davis Goins.

His family moved to Atlanta when he was 10, growing up in the mid-town area. He had a paper route that covered an area from near the Fox Theater on Peachtree all the way to the Piedmont Hospital/Darlington Apartment area.

He and Hilda were married Aug. 19, 1972, at the First Baptist Church Chapel on Peachtree Street by Dr. Charles Stanley.

After John and Hilda were married, they moved to Fayetteville. He enjoyed anything to do with cars and trucks, having an extensive career owning trucks, becoming a car dealer, owning a custom car company, hauling cars from auctions to various dealers and hauling exotic collector cars all over the country. John and Hilda are members of the Fayetteville Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by brother, Bill Wilson, of Tucker. Billy was Johnny’s big brother, and they shared the same birthday. Because of Johnny’s dementia and Parkinson’s, he never knew that his brother had passed away.

He is survived by wife of 49 years, Hilda DeFoor Goins, of Fayetteville, formerly of Ellijay; daughter, Jillian Elisha Rafter and husband, Aaron Ashley Rafter, of Peachtree City; son, James “Jimmy” Elvis Goins, of Fayetteville; granddaughters, Marlee Rayne Rafter and Livia Skye Rafter, of Peachtree City; sons from a previous marriage, John Everett Goins III, of Hiram, and Jeffrey Eric Goins and wife, Deb, of Winston; granddaughters, Amylia Ruth Kosich, and Brooke Elizabeth Goins; step granddaughter, Krysta Ann Fry and husband, Cody; great-granddaughter, Sophia Ann-Marie Kosich, and stepgreat-grandson, Parker James Fry; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Wilson, of Tucker; nieces, Karan Renee Wilson, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa Michelle Wilson, of Atlanta; and great-niece, Raven Nichole Wilson, of Atlanta.

He will be cremated. A military memorial service will be planned for the spring, to be held at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion, with military rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Updates will be given as the date approaches so that all of Johnny’s family and friends will, hopefully, be able to attend. When Johnny was well, his personality was bigger than life, and he would absolutely love for everyone to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, 1575 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30341 or The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.

Johnny’s family appreciates all the calls, texts and messages already received.
