Cindy McClure, widow of fallen Gilmer County Deputy Brett Dickey, speaks during the annual service held to commemorate the life and service of Dickey, killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a violent suspect Feb. 13, 1996. “He was always concerned about others. He impacted so many people with his kindness, generosity and respect for them. Brett always had a Bible in his patrol car and was always ready and willing to pray with anyone at any time. Although to us, it seems like his life was short, it was a life that was well-lived,” said McClure in her comments, while also thanking those who gathered in front of the Gilmer County Courthouse for the public service Tuesday morning.
Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson addressed the crowd gathered in front of the Gilmer County Courthouse Tuesday morning for the annual remembrance service honoring late Gilmer Deputy Brett Dickey, who was killed in the line of duty Feb. 13, 1996. “Brett was a husband, a brand-new father, a son, a brother, a friend, and he was a hero,” said Nicholson, who was also among the team of police officers attempting to apprehend armed suspect Tommy Pickren that fateful day. Nicholson said there was a lot of new faces at this year’s service, which is held each Feb. 13 and is always open to the public.
