Man arrested in deadly hit and run

An Ellijay man is being charged with a hit and run in which a pedestrian was killed. Tracy Lee Wilson, 47, of Ellijay, is charged with felony hit and run, according to a Woodstock Police Department press release. A pedestrian, Sarahfina Okole, 18, was struck at 6:50 a.m. along Hwy.

Dam inspections are in hand

Gilmer County’s 20 dams are in good condition. Board of Commissioners Chair Charlie Paris, true to his words, dropped off copies of the 20 inspection reports to the Times-Courier. “The main thing is for people to not worry,” Paris said.

Man injured fleeing on a motorcycle

An Ellijay man was injured while fleeing law enforcement officials when the motorcycle he was riding struck a Georgia State Patrol car joining the pursuit. Matthew Larry Gibbs, 39, of Lower Cartecay Road, Ellijay, was traveling east on Hwy.

Water board approves septic receiving changes

The Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority Board of Directors voted to limit the amount of septic tank waste that can be accepted by the local wastewater treatment plant during the board’s first meeting of the year Monday, Jan. 27.

Local Master Gardener Extension Volunteers will begin this year’s First Thursday program series at the Gilmer County Library Feb. 6. with a presentation on establishing a pollinator garden.

Demolition set for pool

Before building a new pool, Gilmer County commissioners need the old pool demolished. They accepted the lowest bidder for the job at a special called meeting. Low bid for the demolition of the pool was $76,000, submitted by Jacob Anderson Company LLC.
