Man charged with vandalism at bank

An Ellijay man was arrested after breaking into an East Ellijay bank and causing damage. Once in the officer’s vehicle, he continued his assault on property. Charles Jake Yarbrough, 30, was charged with burglary, damage to property and interference with government property.

The Gilmer Historical Society’s Tabor House Museum is among the many local facilities that will remain closed at least through the month of April and possibly longer, all depending on when restrictions on public gatherings are lifted.

Local churches embracing online worship during health crisis

Modern technology is helping clergy and members of local churches stay connected during the continuing COVID-19 health crisis. With churches having to suspend in-person services and events, many are now relying on social media sites and teleconferencing apps to worship, communicate and comfort.

Several local residents are making the most of sheltering in place by making protective masks that will be used to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  The cloth face masks are currently being sewn by a team of members from the outdoor fitness group Stay Active Ellijay.

Gilmer has first confirmed case

Gilmer County joined the ranks of Georgia counties with a confirmed case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) on Monday. It was recorded on the Georgia Department of Public Health website which records confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the state separated by county.

City councils adopt public health emergency orders

Shortly following similar action by the Gilmer County Board of Commissioners Tuesday, both the Ellijay and East Ellijay City Councils declared a public health state of emergency within their respective city limits Wednesday, March 25.
