Youth camp season underway
Gilmer High School began its yearly youth summer camps this week and they will continue throughout June and into July.
Baseball camp will be June 10-12 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gilmer High Baseball Field. Cost of the camp is $50 with a $10 discount for siblings and open to boys ages 6-13. Campers are encouraged to bring baseball equipment such as a bat, cleats and glove.
Cheerleading camp will be June 10-13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gilmer Middle School gym. The cost is $50 if preregistered, $60 at the door and open to girls from age 4 through sixth grade. Campers will receive a T-shirt and daily snacks.
Softball camp will be June 24-27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the GHS softball field behind Mountain View Elementary. The cost is $60 and open to girls ages 6 to 14. Campers are encouraged to wear cleats and bring proper softball equipment.
Bobcat basketball camp will be split into two groups at different locations. A little kids’ camp for first through fifth graders will be held at Gilmer Middle School, and a middle school camp will be held at the GHS gym for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Both basketball camps will be held June 24-27 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Volleyball camp will be July 15-17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the GHS gym. Cost of the camp is $40 if preregistered, $50 at the door and open to boys and girls in fourth through eighth grade. Campers are encouraged to wear athletic shoes, knee pads and bring a water bottle.
The Gilmer Running Club will meet in June and July. Runs will begin at River Park at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tuesday runs will start at 7 p.m. at the GHS Track. There is no cost and everyone is welcome to attend.
