Lady Cat basketball holds banquet
The Gilmer High Lady Cats remembered their 2016-2017 basketball campaign with an awards banquet March 28.
The event marked a celebration of the Cats’ season in which they earned a fourth consecutive trip to the Class 4A state tournament.
Following the evening’s meal, junior varsity certificates and varsity letters were awarded.
Faith Ralston was named Most Improved for the varsity, and Macie Chastain captured the Sixth Man Award. Baylee Burnette took home the honor of Defensive Player of the Year, and Harley Weaver earned the distinction as the Offensive Player of the Year.
Mary Lee Callihan and Delaney DeLoach shared the Lady Cat Award, and DeLoach also earned the Academic Award with the top GPA. Sarah Aaron was named Most Valuable Player and also received a plaque commemorating her all-region selection.
Seniors Chastain, Burnette, Weaver, DeLoach and Aaron all received the Captain’s Award.
Ralston, Mallory Kiser, Michaela Staley, Katie Kiker and Bailey Teague earned varsity letters for the first time.
Additionally, three players received recognition for their roles at the junior varsity level. Staley received the Lady Cat Award, Kiker was named Most Improved and Teague was their MVP.
