Gilmer High announces yearly soccer banquet awards
Gilmer High School celebrated the Bobcats and Lady Cats soccer seasons with an awards banquet last month.
For the Lady Cats, freshman Ashley Spagnola was named MVP and captured the ninth-grade Academic Award.
Renae Chastain, Grace Henderson, Tylea Hernandez and Tori Jack all received the Senior Award.
Chastain was also named Most Improved, and Henderson took home the Lady Cat Award.
Freshman Naomi Coombs led the Cats with 13 goals and was named Best Offensive Player. McKayla Chambers took the honor as the Best Defensive Player.
Laura Bernabe and Jackie Barrios shared the Coach’s Award. Hernandez received the Academic Award for the senior class, and Joeligh Walk and Catarina Tercero received the honor for the junior and sophomore classes, respectively.
The Bobcats’ MVP was senior Parker Benitez. Israel Bautista was named the team’s top offensive player and Javier Landaverde was the top defender.
Marvin Reynoso led the Bobcats with 16 goals scored and was the recipient of the Golden Boot Award.
Both Ben Jones and Nick Chmiel received the Coach’s Award.
Elias Velasquez was Most Improved and Danny Garcia won the Bobcat Award. Academic awards for each grade were claimed by senior Chmiel, Jones for the junior class, sophomore David Reynoso and freshman John Nix.
