Mrs. Louis James Newton
Mrs. Lois James Newton, 88, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
She was born March 11, 1929, in Ellijay, to the late William Benjamin and Ethel Paralee Ray James. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and worked as a mender for World Carpet.
She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She is preceded in death by husband, Ernest Lawrence Newton; son, Stevie Newton; sisters, Claudia V. McVey and Audrey Fouts; and brothers, Carl James, Ray James and Max James.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Yvonne Newton Land, of Dalton, and Brenda and James Gibson, of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Marie Newton, of Ellijay; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Oleeta Sanford, of Ellijay, and Shirley Sams, of Florida; brothers, Coy James, of Ohio and Dencil James, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, from the Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. David Nicholson and the Rev. Jerry Banks officiating.
Music was by Bill McVey, Ronald and Linda Hyde and Thelma Champion.
Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tracy James, Jimmy Bennett, William Newton, Michael Corbin, Tim Newton, and Willie Southerland.
