David Clifford Johnston
Mr. David Clifford Johnston, 75, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
He was born in Birmingham Ala., to the late Willie and George Johnston. The family then moved to Hollywood, Fla., where he attended McCarther High School.
After graduating, he enlisted and was a proud member of the United States Air Force. Following his service he was a police officer in south Florida for several years before moving to Ellijay in 1978 where he started DCJ Builders until his retirement in 2018.
During that time, he was an active member and officer in the High Country Builders Association and an integral part of helping with their yearly charitable golf tournament. He tried to spend many hours chasing that little white ball with the Creepy Crawlers at White Path Golf Club.
He loved fishing, boating, traveling and especially loved attending car shows with his 1939 Ford pickup.
His best and most favorite times were spent with his large family.
He is preceded in death by brother, Jerry Johnston.
He is survived by wife of 49 years, Donna Johnston; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ziad Malkawi, Kim and Mark Moore; daughter, Angela O’Mara; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Heather Johnston; son, David Johnston; sisters, Anita McFarkin and Karen Williams; grandchildren, Kristi Moore, Maggi Grant, Adam Southern, Bekki Gauntt, Sheri Horrman, Clifford Horrman, Kristina Zatarain, Crystal Painter, Heather Johnston and David Johnston. He was blessed with 14 very much loved great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, from the Deep South Farms, 877 Mulkey Rd., Ellijay.
