One heavy job
Darren Gaddis, Brent Barclay and Steven Smith of Gilmer Towing attach steel cables to an overturned concrete truck that went off a bank and stopped near a pond off Pettit Road in the Big Creek area of the county Tuesday, Sept. 13. West Block Co. owner Chad West said the driver was not hurt. It took until Friday to get the truck, which West said still had concrete in it and weighed “about 80,000 pounds,” turned back over. Towing company owner Gaddis said the truck’s drum eventually had to be taken off and two titanium alloy chains were broken during the whole process. “That’s only the second time I’ve broken chains in 21 years. That’s not something that happens here a whole lot and is definitely one of the bigger jobs we’ve seen,” added Gaddis.
