Men plead not guilty to child sex offenses
Two local men pleaded not guilty to sex crimes involving children in unrelated cases in Gilmer County Superior Court earlier this month, according to court documents.
George William McNemar, 34, of 127 Priest Circle in Talking Rock, is charged by the sheriff’s office with two counts of aggravated child molestation, child molestation, statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes and a recidivist count.
McNemar entered the not guilty plea Nov. 7 before Judge Mary Beth Priest.
The alleged incident with a 14-year-old female occurred at an Ellijay hotel in June, and Police Chief Edward Lacey asked the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division to follow up on information they had received. An investigator with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office was also involved in the case, according to an incident report.
Benjamin Blake Cornell, 20, of 424 Misty Hollow Road in Ellijay, is charged by the sheriff’s office with three counts of aggravated child molestation, child molestation and statutory rape.
Cornell pleaded not guilty Nov. 15 before Judge John Worcester.
Cornell was found by a deputy with a 14-year-old girl in his car at a mobile home park in August, according to a report. Cornell and the girl were taken to the investigative division for questioning after her parents were notified and arrived at the scene, and Cornell was taken to the county jail and charged.
