Domestic incident sparks manhunt
The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office has issued a “be on the lookout” alert for Richard Edmond Fields, 51. He is believed to have been involved in a domestic-related incident that occurred Monday at a residence on Willard Mountain Road near Doublehead Gap.
“Fields is facing charges of home invasion, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, battery, burglary, pointing a gun/pistol at another, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime,” according to the sheriff’s department.
A search for Fields ensued and continued into the early morning hours following the incident, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 20. Assisting with the search were city law enforcement officials, Georgia State Patrol Aviation and a K-9 unit from Cherokee County.
“Fields was known to the victims, therefore, it was not a random act,” stated a press release on the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. “At this point, although we do not know, we do not believe he is still in the area. However, if anyone knows his whereabouts or has any information, please call 911 or Gilmer County CID at 706-635-4646.”
There were no updates in the case and Fields had not been caught as of press deadline Tuesday.
