Veterans Day Schedule of Events
Thursday, Nov. 9
6 p.m. — Gilmer Rotary Club Veterans Appreciation Dinner, Ellijay First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 164 Dalton St.
Friday, Nov. 10
8:30 a.m. – Breakfast for all veterans and their families at Ellijay First United Methodist Church, no reservations are required.
10 a.m. – Formation for the parade.
10:30 a.m. – Parade, followed by an honorary service on the downtown square. Always a touching and poignant tribute to American military veterans, this year’s event will feature a musical tribute performed by the Gilmer High School Marching Band and Chorus, and special guest, Georgia House Speaker and Gilmer County native, David Ralston. Winners of various student essay and poster contests with a Veterans Day theme of ‘All Gave Some, Some Gave All’ will also be recognized.
Noon – Immediately following the service on the square, a free barbecue lunch will be served at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds and will be open to all veterans, active duty military and their families.
1:30 p.m. – Clear Creek Middle School Veterans Day Program with patriotic music and singing in their gymnasium.
4 p.m. – Gilmer Nursing Home Veterans Program.
Saturday, Nov. 11
7 p.m. – Gilmer Arts Community Chorus proudly presents "The Home Of The Brave," A Musical Celebrating America’s Courage and Commitment, at the Ellijay Elementary Auditorium. Free to the community (donations will be accepted and appreciated).
