Outdoor movies continue at Harrison Park this Saturday
A free outdoor movie series continues this Saturday at Harrison Park.
The Friends of Harrison Park will present How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World at the 75 McCutchen Street park Sept. 14. The PG-rated movie will begin at dark.
Preshow entertainment will be provided at 7 p.m. by musicians from Gilmer Arts Acoustic Blends and the acoustic jam sessions at Back Porch Bistro, said event organizer Rick Lucas.
The Friends’ first outdoor movie night was held Saturday, Aug. 31. Lucas said 146 attended to watch A Dog’s Way Home. The final outdoor movie will take place Saturday, Sept. 28, with the original Karate Kid from 1984.
“We’re doing three movies in a row and we had to do them based on when it gets dark. We’ll probably do another series in the spring and again next fall,” Lucas added. “We want to get people to come to the park who maybe haven’t been there before. We’re showing PG-rated movies that are family oriented and we’ll have popcorn, snacks and drinks for a buck each.”
Moviegoers should bring their own chairs and blankets, Lucas noted. Outside food and drink is also allowed, but alcohol and pets are not, he added.
Parking will be available at the nearby First United Methodist Church and Ellijay Primary School lots.
“We’ll have handicapped parking at the park itself, so we’re asking others to park at the primary school or the church and leave the handicapped parking available. People can pull into the park and drop their coolers or chairs off first, then park, if they want,” Lucas said.
