Man charged with molestation
A Gilmer County man was arrested after a 4-year-old girl told her parents he had molested her on more than one occasion, authorities said.
Daniel Eugene Cooper, 24, of 372 Defoor Drive, was charged Aug. 2 by the sheriff’s office with child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Deputy Tommy Humphries wrote in an incident report that the girl told her father and mother that the babysitter’s husband, Daniel Cooper, had made her touch him in his private area and also molested her body.
The mother said her daughter told her Cooper made her brother go into the living room to watch TV, then “tells her daughter to come snuggle with him in the bed and that is when this happens.”
“(The girl’s father) stated his daughter said this was not the first time this has happened,” the report states, then adds later: “(The babysitter) stated the children were with her husband alone from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. (She) stated that her husband (Daniel) had gotten into trouble when he was 14 for the same type incident.”
Cooper was beung held in the Gilmer County jail on a $25,000 bond and had not made bail, a jail spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.
