Ellijay woman, 2 children injured in Murray wreck
An Ellijay woman was airlifted to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga and two children were taken to Murray Medical Center following a single-vehicle wreck in Murray County Friday morning.
According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, Britney Nichole Long, 24, was driving west on Highway 52 east of Cliff Mine Road around 11:44 a.m. in a 2000 Ford Ranger Super pickup truck.
She was rounding a curve when the vehicle left the right side of the road. Long overcorrected and the vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and left the left side of the road. The vehicle struck a tree with its front and left side.
The report says Long was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be removed with the Jaws of Life, a hydraulic rescue tool. She was taken to Erlanger.
Two children in the vehicle — a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl — were taken to Murray Medical Center. Both were in child restraint systems, but the report said the 2-year-old’s system was improperly installed.
“The driver ... stated that she could not remember what happened,” the report said.
Alcohol or drug use were not suspected.
The report says Long would be cited for failure to maintain lane and given a warning about improper child restraint.
