Drug officer arrested for soliciting nude photos
A Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force officer has been arrested for unlawfully soliciting nude photos from a woman.
Charles Hamrick, 41, of Dawsonville, violated the terms of his oath by using his position to influence the woman to send him nude and semi-nude photos of herself “during a time she believed herself to be a confidential informant” and “during a time she was under the belief she could have potential criminal charges,” according to a warrant dated July 24.
The warrant also states Hamrick told the woman he destroyed her confidential informant file “in consideration of her having sent him nude and semi-nude photos.”
Pickens County Sheriff Donnie Craig, who sits on the board of directors of the drug task force, said, “In a nutshell, we were working a totally separate case when we got info about what was going on.”
Hamrick was terminated as soon as superiors found out, well before the arrest, and it was turned over to the GBI, Craig said.
“We didn’t think any sexual activity ever took place, but the relationship was completely inappropriate with any potential confidential informant or co-defendant,” he said.
“I want people to know two things: One, I hate it that a situation like this existed. But two, we will definitely not tolerate it, whether with the DTF or the sheriff’s office. We immediately looked into it and then followed through with the GBI criminal investigation.”
Hamrick has been charged with violating his oath as a public officer.
Offenses are said to have occurred between Nov. 1, 2017, and May 17, 2018. Hamrick was released on a $1,000 bond.
