Chattanooga man dies in motorcycle wreck
A Chattanooga, Tenn., man died following injuries he received in a motorcycle wreck on Highway 282 on Sept. 16, authorities said.
William Clifton Dunn, 53, was taken by Gilmer EMS to the Piedmont Mountainside emergency department in Ellijay and was pronounced dead at 10:20 a.m., said Coroner Jerry Hensley. The accident occurred at 9:17 a.m., according to a Georgia State Patrol crash report.
Dunn was following Maricela Perez of 1412 Heather Way in Dalton, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. As they were traveling east, a motorist in front of Perez slowed to turn right onto Old Tails Creek Road and was using brakes and turn signal, the report noted.
Perez entered the westbound lane to go around the slowing vehicle, and Dunn did also. When Perez saw a vehicle in the westbound lane coming toward her, she veered back into the eastbound lane and Dunn collided with the rear of the Jeep, according to the report.
“(Dunn) hit the back of the Jeep and it threw him off,” Hensley said. Perez was cited for passing in a no passing zone by crossing the double-yellow line.
