Troup County High School teacher Hannah Frady was named the teacher of the year for the Troup County School System earlier this year.
Frady, 30, has been a teacher at Troup High for four years. She’s originally from Dalton, but she was raised in Elljay.
She taught at Veterans Memorial Middle School in Covington for two years before moving to Troup County in 2016.
“I love interacting with the students,” Frady said. “I know not all of them are going to find history interesting, so I love to have general conversations with them in the downtimes about what interests them, how they’re doing, what was funny that happened earlier that day, etc.”
Frady has three college degrees. She earned a bachelor of science in education-social studies from the University of Georgia in 2013.
She received her master of education – social studies education (MEd) from UGA in 2014 and earned her education specialists in media — school library media (EdS) from the University of West Georgia in 2019.
While at UGA, Frady played saxophone as a member of the Redcoat Marching Band, which made her a huge Bulldogs football fan.
She is a part of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), the National Council of the Social Studies (NCSS) and the Georgia Council of the Social Studies (NCSS). At school, she also co-sponsors BETA Club.
Frady gets to teach an advanced placement class this year, which has always been a goal of hers.
“I am so happy with where I am at in my career right now,” she said.
“Eventually, I would like to become a school library media specialist.”
When she’s not working, she enjoys hiking Georgia State Parks.
She and her dog, Athena, have hiked 12 of 41 Georgia State Parks to receive a certificate.
The plan is to do all 41.
