A June 22 groundbreaking officially began preliminary construction of a new 34,000-square foot motel in the Highlands shopping and dining area of East Ellijay. Plans to build a Comfort Inn and Suites on a three-acre lot across from the East Ellijay Walmart were first announced in early 2014.
