GHS Cats face 4 ‘tough’ opponents
The Gilmer Lady Cats faced four formidable challengers last week.
Taking the volleyball court for nonregion matches, the Cats faced schools from larger classifications, which included Marietta, Kell and Habersham Central. GHS met East Hall as well and the Cats lost all three, 2-0.
“It was hopefully the toughest week for the girls, and I think they came through it great,” said coach Donna Parks. “Each player learned some things by facing tougher competition, and that will hopefully carry over into this last half of the season.
“We (coaches) were all impressed by how they adapted, especially at Sprayberry when we faced much larger, more experienced schools of Marietta and Kell.”
The week began Tuesday at East Hall and the Cats fell to the hometown Vikings, 25-16 and 25-19. Habersham Central defeated GHS 25-16 and 25-15.
In Cobb County Thursday, Gilmer lost to Marietta (25-15 and 25-22) and Kell (25-7 and 25-22).
Gilmer is 5-12 overall and will host Union County Thursday at the GHS gym at 5 p.m.
